Our Approach

Our Allied Health Community and Home Support services are focused on the strengths and goals of our clients. We’ll be working with you to encourage healthy aging. The approach we take is known as ‘wellness and reablement’ and there is a strong evidence base behind this being the most appropriate way to provide supports. This approach to intervention has long been core to the training and practice of Occupational Therapists.

Wellness refers to the state of being in good physical and mental health. It encompasses the whole person and is concerned with the prevention of illness and promotion of a high level of well-being. We look to enable clients to participate in meaningful and purposeful activities or occupations.

Reablement refers to the process of helping a person to regain their independence and abilities following natural aging, illness, injury, or disability. It aims to improve physical, cognitive, and social skills, and to support you in your recovery and rehabilitation. The goal of reablement is to enhance quality of life and increase ability to participate in everyday activities.

How we can support you

Your therapists can assist with:

  • Assessing and making recommendations for adaptive aids, equipment and assistive technology. This can be for the loan or purchase of these items. Recliners, beds, scooters are examples of the items that we might consider to maintain your independence.
  • Trial and implementation for safe use of the newly prescribed equipment.
  • Assessing for and making recommendations for home modifications. Your package may contribute to some of these costs however major modifications can be expensive and you may be required to self fund these works.
  • Support and education around minor changes to your existing environment including reorganising regular use items
  • Healthy aging is inclusive of maintaining social contact and interests for many of our clients. We can work with you to reimagine how you can reengage in the things that you’d loved in your younger years but which are a bit more challenging to participate in now.
